Dr. Gary Alan Lewis
Jesup—Dr. Gary Alan Lewis, 65, of Jesup died Nov. 20, 2017, of an accidental drowning in the Altamaha River at Jaycee Landing.
The Wayne County native was a member of Jesup Primitive Baptist Church and was known as an accomplished pianist. After graduating from Wayne County High School in 1970, he attended the University of Georgia and later received his DMD degree from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. He operated his dental practice in Wayne County along with a satellite office for several years in Blackshear.
Upon retirement, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming and helping with many dental programs including “Help a Child Smile.”
Survivors include his wife, Dianne Mumford Lewis of Jesup; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Dr. Judson Lewis of Columbia, South Carolina, Dr. Victor Lewis and his wife, Dr. Jeniann Yi, of Denver, Colorado, and Phillip Lewis of Augusta; parents, Elmer and Janell Brannen Lewis of Jesup; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Cheryl and Maron Deloach of Jesup and Tina and Larry Broach of Jacksonville, Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside funeral service were held Friday at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with Elder Emerson Proctor officiating. Active pallbearers were Dr. Steve Turner, Dr. George Madray, Dr. M.E. Geer, Doug Lewis, Vernie Lewis, Herman Lewis, Jr., Randall Aspinwall and Kenny Brannen. Honorary pallbearers were former staff members and patients.
The family received friends at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jesup Primitive Baptist Church, 595 S. First St., Jesup, GA 31545.

Bud Guyton
Jesup—Bud Guyton, 65, of Jesup died Nov. 18, 2017, at Harborview following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Aug. 24, 1952, to the late Mary Jean and Matthew Bryant Sr. in Eastman.
He received his GED, was certified in skilled construction work and worked many years with Seaboard as a heavy machine operator.
In his youth, he attended Morris Chapel Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, sports, shooting dice and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandchild, Zykeyon Guyton; and a sister, Nell Cook.
He is survived by his companion, Cassandra “Saint” Jernigan of Jesup; a daughter, Tailynn Guyton of West Palm, Florida; five sons and two daughters-in-law, Victor and Lakisha Jackson of Jesup, Terrance Guyton of Alma, Jermaine Bud Guyton of Jesup, Michael Guyton of Jesup, and Dewayne and Nicole Jernigan of Jesup; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Odessa Powell-Hussey and Baraton Hussey, Dorothy and Joe Sigler, Maxine King, Mary Kay Guyton, and Linda Guyton and Clarence Rodgers; seven brothers and two sisters-in-law, Matthew Guyton of Jesup, Billy Guyton of Tampa, Florida, Jimmy Guyton of Jesup, Bobby and Rose Mary Guyton of Jesup, Timmie Guyton of Jesup, Troy Guyton of Omaha, Nebraska and Thomas and Melissa Guyton of Tampa, Florida; one uncle, Henry “Uncle Bubba” Bryant of Jesup; his mother and her husband, the Rev. Albert and Elizabeth Kelly of Jesup; sisters-in-law, Charlotte and Greg Norwood, Dorothy Jernigan, Betty Jernigan and Bonnie Jernigan, all of Jesup; brothers-in-law and their wives, Spencer and Amy Kelly of Warner Robins, Christopher and Evelyn Kelly of Atlanta, and James Jernigan of Jesup; his grandchildren, Zyleria, Zykeria, Nygeria, Victoria, LaVonty, Deondre “Smokey,” Keontae “Keke,” Brye’Antae “Brye,” Julian, Deeondria, Justice, Caleb, Taniya and Naleigha; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
There will not be a wake/visitation. Remains will lie in state one hour prior to services on Sunday. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Final arrangements are being handled by Royal Funeral Home.
 
Freddie Lee Hillmon Jr.
Jesup—Freddie Lee Hillmon Jr., 58, of Screven died Nov. 20, 2017, at Altamaha Healthcare Center in Jesup.
He was born on May 31, 1959, to the late Inez Bracewell-Hillmon and Freddie Lee Hillmon Sr. in Jesup.
He graduated from Wayne County Training School in the Class of 1976. He worked at Rayonier and other area paper mills.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Joseph Bentley and Parris Hillmon; and a sister, Rhonda Wright.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Richard D. and Genevive Hillman of Richardson, Colorado; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Fredelyn Hillmon-Attical and Lamar Attical and Kaye Berry of Atlanta; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
