Freeman Bacon

Jesup—Freeman Bacon, 86, of Jesup died Oct. 11, 2019.

He was born Feb. 18, 1933, in Pembroke. He attended and graduated from Bradwell Institute in Liberty County. He entered the Army in February 1952 and trained as a weapons maintenance technician.  He credited his training to helping his leadership development.

He married Dorothy Jean Allen on May 14, 1953. They were married for 65 years before her death in 2018.

He began work at ITT Rayonier in Jesup on April 1, 1954. He was a maintenance superintendent for more than 20 years and retired with 38 years of service.

He was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman, sharing this love with his grandchildren and friends. The highlight of the entire Bacon clan’s year was always the annual Fourth of July gathering held at various resorts, most especially Richard B. Russell State Park in Elberton.

He was predeceased by his sister, Frieda Stanford, and brother, Ralph Bacon.

Survivors include three daughters, Vickie (Truett) Thompson of Jasper, Molly (Greg) Whetzel of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Livia (Michael) McMahon of Savannah; eight grandchildren, Jereme (Richard) Breedlove of Watkinsville, Allison (Brian) Neal of Jasper, Brittany (Mike) Meissner of Pacolet, South Carolina, Cameron (Zac) McCarthy of Greer, South Carolina, Hamilton Buchanan of Vail, Colorado, Ryan (Lexi) McMahon of Glenville, West Virginia, and Ben McMahon and Dylan McMahon of Savannah; six great-grandchildren, Ansley and Hadley Breedlove of Watkinsville, Ryley and Coleton Neal of Jasper and Viola and Sylvia Meissner of Pacolet; several nieces, nephews and cousins; many faithful caregivers including Sue Nell Barber, Vince Fales; and a special friend and caregiver, Mary Louise Smith.

Funeral services were held Oct. 15 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Rebecca Duke-Barton officiating. Interment was in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Robert and Nan Heath, the members of First United Methodist Church JOY Class and the Liar’s Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 205 E. Cherry Street, Jesup, GA 31546.

Troy Clifton Anderson

Jesup—Troy Clifton Anderson, 81, of Jesup died Oct. 11, 2019.

The Wayne County native attended New Hope Freewill Baptist Church all of his life and was a retired Wayne County Road Department employee.

He enjoyed watching sports and sharing his life stories with all of his friends.

Survivors are his companion, Jan Arnold Davis of Jesup; several cousins; and the entire membership of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Oct. 14 at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Horne and the Rev. R.M. Warren officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were his friends. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Hope Cemetery Fund, 455 Ogden Loop, Odum, GA 31555.

Nolie Jean Scarborough Vann

Jesup—Nolie Jean Scarborough Vann, 75, of Jesup died Oct. 14, 2019. A Wayne County native, she was a retired Wayne County Board of Education school bus driver. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Viola Beverly Scarborough, and a brother, Olin “Jeff” Scarborough.

Survivors are a son, James (Barbara Vickers) Vann of Jesup; a grandson, David Vann of Jesup; a granddaughter, Sarah Vann of Jesup; a brother, Homer (Glenda) Scarborough of Jesup; and a caregiver, Janet Diffenworth of Jesup.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Red Hill Cemetery with David Simmons officiating.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery.
