Michael “Mike” A. Martin
Jesup—Michael “Mike” A. Martin, 64, of Jesup won his victory over pancreatic cancer on April 18, 2018 by exchanging the struggles of this life for the joys of heaven.
A 1972 graduate of Wayne County High School, he worked at Boykin Erectors before beginning a 40-year career with Rayonier. When not working at the mill, he could usually be found running his side business of stump grinding, completing home improvement projects, or in the woods, practicing his favorite pastime of hunting. He will also be remembered as a humble yet dedicated servant of Christ and His church, an encouraging voice to other believers that God can and will make a difference in our lives if we will only commit fully to Him.
The many friends he made at church, at work and while hunting were important parts of his life, and the support they have given him through the years is greatly appreciated by his family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Eldridge and Juanell Martin, and a brother, Russell Martin.
A committed servant of Christ, he made a peaceful transition into his reward supported by his wife of 42 years, Sherry Miles Martin of Jesup; a son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Hannah Martin of Jesup; a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Forrest Aspinwall of Savannah; grandchildren, Mollie and Miles Martin of Jesup; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Doug Lewis of Jesup; and a sister-in-law, Kay Martin of Albany.
His home-going celebration will be held today (Saturday) at 3 p.m. at Jesup Church of God with the Rev. Clayton Dowd, the Rev. Calvin Anderson and family members officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Darrell Denison, Gary Tyre, Jimmy Pate, Ronny Cooksey, Buddy Williamson and Ronnie Mullis. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Roberts, Don Davis, Mike Harrell, Russell Bailey, Tally and Benji Ogden, Raymond Thomas and all current and retired Rayonier coworkers.
