NOTICE TO PROPOSAL TO CONSOLIDATE WAYNE COUNTY VOTING PRECINTS
Pursuant to O.C.G.A. §21-2-262(C), the Wayne County Election Superintendent and Board of Registrars are proposing to consolidate all fifteen (15) Voting Precincts used on Election Day into one (1) central Voting Precinct located at the Coastal Pines Technical College, 1777 West Cherry Street, Jesup, Georgia effective with the November 7, 2017 General Election. The purpose of consolidating the current 15 Voting Precincts is to reduce voter confusion on Election day by having only one polling place as well as to reduce the cost to tax payers by reducing ballot printing, election supplies, and other election expenses. With the implementation of Voting by Mail for 45 days prior to each election and Early Voting at the Courthouse for 3 weeks prior to each election, it is no longer necessary to maintain the 15 voting precincts in Wayne County. Election Laws have changed that once required a voting precinct in each district. The Wayne County Election Superintendent and Board of Registrars will make a final decision on this proposed change at a Public Hearing on Tuesday March 7, 2017 at 7:00 pm at the Wayne Board of Commissioners Office, 341 East Walnut Street, Jesup, GA 31546.
Anyone wishing to object to this consolidation shall do so in writing stating the reason for such objection and may file such objections at the Office of the Judge of the Probate Court,359 East Walnut Street, Jesup, GA 31546 or mail them to said office at 359 East Walnut Street, Jesup, GA 31546. Such filings must be received no later than Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.
For questions, you may contact Judge Tammy Thornton, Wayne County Superintendent of Elections at 912-427-5940 or Mrs. Kay Arnold, Chief Voter Registrar at 912-427-5940.
